Garden Checklist (part 1)

Hey, Tom Bartels here with part one of the three part checklist!

Want your veggie garden to look like the photo at right?

OK. Let’s get started.

Use this page to start your priority checklist for the spring garden.
First off, I’ll go through a very basic check list of priorities. This helps bring things into focus on what to do next, then I’ll get to some specifics on how to successfully grow the most popular veggies, and how to save time doing it.

Take the time to really think about which step is next for you. Perhaps you already did certain steps. That’s great! Just try to keep in mind what is still left to be done and organize your chores accordingly. If you approach the garden with clear goals in mind for each step, it tends to make things much easier.

Good Luck. and Stay Tuned! I’ll be sending you part 2 and 3 in a few days.
Cheers. Tomgdn3

Seeds? If you aren’t already planting them, get your seeds first. Go find what’s still offered at local garden centers, or online at Johnny’s Seeds or some other trusted seed company. (Avoid cheap seeds at big box stores) (Seed Companies PDF below)

Seedlings? If you didn’t grow some yet, fine. Go buy some at the nursery. See “Buying Seedlings” PDF below for helpful tips.

Diagram your garden beds as to what will be where.

Get your Organic Compost ready to amend the beds to get things started. If you need to go buy some organic compost, fine, go get it and stage it next to the beds.

Amend the soil with compost, and work into the top 6” with a garden fork.

Get your watering program in place. If you have small beds and want to water by hand, fine, but look into an easy drip irrigation setup with a $30 timer. You’ll save tons of time this summer.

Plant everything! Gates are open, frost has passed.

Use the “Veg Spacing” Chart I have posted on the bottom of this page for planting guidelines.

Use the “Garden Task Outline”  (pdf below) to help organize your thoughts. *This is from inside the garden training program, but the videos aren’t linked.

Watch your email for part 2 & 3 of the checklist.
Get out there and Grow Some Food!
